Single Action Revolver?
I'm looking to buy a Single Action Revolver in the 300-500 dollar range. I want to buy either a .357 or .45LC. I've narrowed it down to Ruger New Vaquero, and a Beretta Stampede. If anybody has advice on either caliber or brand or basically anything at all relating to these guns I would appreciate it. Also if you know of a different gun that I should consider feel free to suggest it. I'm considering learning the art of the quickdraw so please keep that in mind.
I never go into answering stuff like this as an expert, just some experience. My experience is with the Ruger Vaquero, which is fantastic, not with the Beretta singles. I am sure the Beretta is a quality single action, but you never hear anybody say anything negative about the Vaquero. Personally, I would go with the Vaquero in .357. Why, ballisticly it is a better round than the .45LC, more easily found, and you can fire .38 through it for target/plinking purposes and save yourself some money. Granted, the .45LC has a certain level of "romance" to it but the power isn't as impressive as the .357 and the drop is horrible. Now, if you go with the .45LC Vaquero, you can buy an optional cylinder to fire .45ACP through it, again, save some money for target/plinking purposes.
We have a quick draw club in our area, so I know a little about it, not a lot. I am not sure if they would restrict the use of modern calibers such as .357 in competition. For just personal satisfaction of learning how to quick draw and being proficient at it, again, the .357 so that while you are practicing you can fire the .38's through it and save yourself some bucks.
Good luck....Wish my wife would let me buy a new toy! =)
