I put an listing on eBay to sell a Magpul AR15 pistol grip and eBay deleted the ad?
because they said it violated their terms of service due to the fact that the item I was selling could be mounted on and is an accessory for what is considered an assault rifle in the state of CA. (I live in VA) While this is true I still don't understand why they deleted my listing considering if one were to do a search of Magpul MIAD grips on ebay, which is what I was trying to sell, there are about 42 results and all of them seem to be doing just fine. I'm wondering if it was because I put "AR15" in the ad, is that it?
I have listed items on CraigsList and eBay that violate their terms. You can do it, but run the risk of getting caught without a penalty, if you're sneaky enough. Leave off terms like PISTOL and AK or AR.
Anyone interested in your item can read between the lines. I once listed a scope and rifle for sale on CraigsList. The ad went something like this:
Leupold 4-12x50 VXII
What it's mounted on is for sale too
I proceeded to list details without getting too specific. The ad was never pulled even though CraigsList has a "no scope" policy in addition to no firearms.
Just be careful and remember that you target buyers know what you have.
Edit: They have a computer program to search for obvious terms like; gun, AK47, shotgun, firearm, bullet(s), ammunition. Just imagine you're the programmer and you can create a list of words to catch violators. What would you put in your search terms? If you're not a gun person, terms like Leupold, Magpul and stock have no meaning.
