What Rifle combo do you recommend?

I have always been active with handguns, but am just recently getting into long rifles and hunting. I don't want to go way over the top with my first purchase, which I have a tendancy to do...

I have found a few combo rifles that come with scopes and one even comes with a case. I know as a general rule to stay away from combos. However, all of the rifles have received really good reviews from what I have found online. I figure if the optics aren't the greatest, then I can always replace them down the road when I become better educated on scopes and such.

I am going with something in 270, but am curious to see which of these would you recommend?

Weatherby Vanguard Package
Mossberg 4X4 package (with or without the skeleton stock)
Savage Arms package in stainless

I also like the Tikka, but would have to buy optics seperately.

I think the mossberg is junk

I think the weatherby synthetic vanguard is a real good gun for the money.

Screw the combo, things will go wrong with the cheap scope that you won't detect, and it will be very frustrating.

Common problems with cheap scopes
-you will zero the rifle and then store it for a few weeks. When you next go out to shoot, the crosshairs will have shifted, the scope won't be zeroed any more, and you won't realize it until you miss a lot
-the crosshairs won't consistently move the distance a click (or 10) should move it. (let's say you get it zeroed, click up 20 clicks and then click back down 20 clicks. The scope SHOULD have returned to the zero position....but it ended up higher or lower)

Crash course on scopes:
-You get what you pay for
-$150 to $200 is the lowest you should go
-$300 is better
-you will gain more quality by going from a $200 to a $300 than you will going from a $300 to a $500
-Going from price $100 to $500 you are buying a better class of mechanical innards for your scope
-Above $500 you are mainly paying for higher quality lenses (sharper, more color transmitted), the quality of the mechanical innards has practically maxed out.
-it's hard to detect the difference between really crappy lenses, average lenses, and super-quality lenses while in the gunstore under bright lights and with limited distances.
-buy name brands at this price level (Nikon, Bushnell, Leupold, Weaver, Sightron)
-a common 'trick' in the scope industry is to introduce a new brand, make the scopes in Japan initially, charge a low rate, get good press, then switch manufuacturing to someplace dirt cheap and cash in on that good name for the next 5-10 years.
-Some people report good results from inexpensive scopes. This is because:
a. They got really lucky
b. They got a scope when it was made at the good factory before it went to the cheap factory
c. They aren't being honest with you/themselves about the performance
d. They are erroneously blaming errors caused by the scope on themselves.
