How are legal poker clubs may find it difficult to play?

Well, I play in a poker club Ohio offers cash games and tournaments. You have to pay 25 dollars for a membership fee and 25 dollars every time you want to sit down and play the tables. Now the game has not rake or session fees, sales have not been paid, and the only way that they make money is if you give them a "chip dollar tip." This is a membership club where you fill a membership form and you are free to play darts, pool, poker, ping pong or lounge and watch the big screen tv. It has been almost 2 years now. I signed up 3 days ago and I'm generally curious about how these clubs are legal and if that whatever happened would get in trouble for playing or as some kind of raid occurred or simply being a member of the club. General Club in a good area in the middle of a mall, probably 2 guards with pistols, so safety is generally good, but I am concerned about the cops busting down on stage. Thanks for your responses.

I do not know the answer to this. The law varies from state to state. I think the sad thing is that there is any question about it. In a free country, we should not be afraid that the government would send armed police to raid a place like this and steal money from participants. Gambling laws in America are highly volatile and must be updated. As far as I'm concerned if the state has a lottery, then all reasonable forms of gambling should be legal. How can someone claim that it is OK to sell lottery tickets across the country, but a game of cards is somehow bad and wrong? I think that if the states have to make a choice, we'd be surprised how many would choose to maintain illegal lottery and other forms of gambling. They will not want to lose revenue.
